Ruler of the World

I loved the show Pinky and the Brain.  Every episode you could predict the conversation….

Pinky: “Gee, Brain, what do you want to do tonight?”

The Brain: “The same thing we do every night, Pinky—try to take over the world!”

Have you ever thought what it would be like to take over the world?

Is that the type of responsibility you would want to have?

Sure being ruler of the world would be fun for awhile.  But sooner or later as ruler of the world you would have to decide how to keep order in the entire world.  You would have to make decisions that would affect billions of people.  Words like “should,” “have to,” “ought to,” and “must,” would show up often in your speech. The more people you make happy and who approve of what you are doing, just as many people will be hurt and will disapprove of what you are doing.

Because you want to rule the world, you will not want to give power to anyone else.  Why would you, everywhere you look there are people who are “doing it wrong”  you see incompetence everywhere you turn!  How did anyone get anything done before you took over?

Everyone is looking at you, everyone is counting on you, can you handle the pressure?

Who are you going to do when you can’t handle the pressure?  Who are you going to lean on when things get tough?

So many times in our lives we try to be rulers of the world.  We have our jobs, we have our families, we have our social lives that we try and control, we try to be rulers of.  But when things go wrong in our lives do we have a place to turn?

For many of us, we have the people around us who will support and love us no matter what we are going through, no matter how many times we try and push them away.  Perhaps we finally break down and allow them to come back into our lives and help out – or perhaps our egos are still in the way.

Then it happen, we try so hard to keep up with life, to keep up with all that comes at us and we finally break down.  Then where do we go?  It is then that we go to God.  We have God who is out there who promises never to leave us.  We have God who is there every time even when we try to push God away, because God walks with us or even carries us through the difficult times in our lives.   So when you feel overwhelmed of trying to rule your world, feel free to seek God out, but you will not have to look too far because God is by your side.
